Florida is a warm state, in fact after Hawaii, Florida is the warmest state –  so why are stone fireplace surrounds so popular in Palm Beach Florida?

We discuss what we’ve learned while dealing with the customers that request Fireplace Surrounds and Mantels, most of whom live in and around Palm Beach County Florida.

Admittedly our typical customer’s home is over a million dollars, so the results of our informal survey will be skewed to the higher end. However there are some smaller homes we’ve installed fireplaces in that have many of the same reasons for requesting a fireplace.

The Top 6 reasons Floridians want to have a fireplace surrounds

  1. The pragmatic dream house reason. – If you are going to spend over a million dollars on a house, you might as well get the house that you want, and not settle for anything less than a house with everything you desire. This means adding less than 1% of the cost of a house to get a fireplace or 2 is a no brainer. For instance some of the houses we work on,  can add a pool, spa, loggia, outdoor kitchen, outdoor and indoor fireplace, for less than 5% of the total price – a comparative bargain.
  2. The great room factor – many modern luxury homes we work on have a great room. Is a great room great without a fireplace? Probably not. Sometimes a large room looks empty or has something missing, and a fireplace surround can really finish a room off.
  3. The Aesthetic and Memories – Although fireplaces are not really a common part of life for most young people, the older generation have great memories of fireplaces, even from modest upbringings. Fireplaces historically have been a central feature with which to congregate, and have done since fire was tamed, and having a nice feature and a mantel to add bric-a-brac to helps at the merry season.
  4. The wow factor. This ties in with reason 1. If you want to impress your friends, you’ve gotta have a fireplace. Especially if they have one at their home.
  5. Outdoor fireplaces are in big time. Almost every residence we work on now has a comprehensive outdoor living area or Loggia. To get everything you would have the following. 1. Outdoor cooking/bbq   2. Outdoor kitchen features   3. Ice maker   4. bar   5. fireplace surround and Mantel  6. Retractable screens   7. Sound system.
  6. Lastly, chilly romantic nights. This does not happen that often, but it does sometimes get a little chilly in Florida, and when it does, you’ve got a great reason to light the fire and break out the Barry White tunes and curl up in front of the fire with a glass of vino.
